James McMillian III

James is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFTA) in North Carolina. With a psychology degree from UNCW and a Master of Science Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from East Carolina University, James has developed a passion for supporting mental health and optimal functioning for children, teens, young adults, couples and families. 

James specializes in supporting children and teens with social anxiety, separation anxiety, school anxiety, depression, anger, self-esteem, self-harm, suicidality, ODD, ADHD, family separation/divorce, and college/life transitions. He works closely with parents who are eager to assist, understand, and support their children through these challenges and adjustments.

James further provides Reunification Therapy for parents and their children, whether recommended by the courts or sought personally after a period of estrangement, alienation, or significant rupture.

As a couples/family therapist, James supports relationships of all constellations as they navigate difficult conversations, communication needs, boundary setting, healthy coparenting, trust rebuilding, and healing after a betrayal. 

James utilizes evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), systemic therapy and attachment-based approaches to provide skilled interventions while upholding a warm, compassionate and accepting therapeutic environment.
