Sarah Dotzler

Sarah is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) specializing in working with adults 18 and older. Originally from New York, Sarah obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oswego. She went on to complete her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Long Island University at Post.

Sarah specializes in working with individuals 18yo+ who are struggling with anxiety, grief & loss, trauma, depression, acute and chronic stress, and relationship challenges. Specifically, she works with individuals facing current or past relationship abuse and those wanting to form healthy, safe, and loving attachments. Her work focuses on self esteem, confidence, self forgiveness, and generating hope towards the future. For those experiencing self harm, Sarah will walk alongside you to understand your pain in a non-judgmental way.

Sarah’s work with young adults includes working with athletes who are struggling with perfectionism, anxiety, overwhelm and burnout. Together she will work with you to cope with and find balance amongst all of your demands – practice, school, travel, training, physical therapy, social interactions, and time for yourself. Additionally, athletes’ mental health can be impacted by expectations to succeed- whether this pressure comes from within or from others. Together she will work to support your emotional health alongside your physical health and aspirations. For athletes that are reintegrating into exercise and sports after injury, Sarah helps to navigate the emotions, fears and stressors that can arise.

Sarah’s approach is person centered, strength based, and non-judgmental. She is passionate about supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, specifically providing gender affirming care. Using empirically supported therapy approaches, Sarah integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical and Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), solution-focused therapy, and narrative therapy.

Having relocated to the coast, Sarah offers in-office appointments in Wilmington, and telehealth appointments throughout the state of North Carolina.
